Our upcoming Commercial Scuba Diver (CSD) course
Will you be one of our new CSD trainees this September? Graduates from this five-week Scuba course will receive certification to the CSA standards for an Unrestricted Occupational Scuba Diver. Certification allows the diver to conduct commercial diving operations using scuba equipment to a maximum depth of 40 metres (130 feet).
Oh, and did we mention that the hiring rate for DiveSafe International’s graduates is approximately 95 per cent? From seafood harvesting and aquaculture diving to environmental assessment, public safety diving and film industry work, the options for employment are varied and numerous.
Why it’s a great time to get into commercial diving
While employment in the B.C. diving industry has always been pretty steady, recent years have seen a marked rise in employment opportunities. New fish farm sites slated to open or re-open in B.C. waters as well as a general increase in seafood harvesting have contributed to a busy time for divers.
Internationally, the market for urchins and geoduck is strong – particularly with the low-flying loonie helping exports. Combine that with growth in coastal construction, and the future looks bright for those thinking about testing the waters as divers.
Are you a member of a First nation? There is often funding available for First Nations individuals interested in pursuing commercial dive training. (Ask us about these opportunities!).
