Congratulations to the Graduates of our PLA Accelerated track Commercial SCUBA class: Matt Drake, Ryan Cloutier and Rowan Trebilco. Great job!

Special Bulletin!

Divesafe is pleased to announce that we will be hosting SVOP, MED-A3 and ROC-M courses at our facility in February. By popular request, we are running these courses over a series of weekends to better accommodate work schedules. Dates are as follows:

SVOP - 9:00-5:00 Feb 4, 5, 11 & 12.  $699 + HST

MED-A3 - 9:00-5:00 Feb 18  $150 + HST

ROC-M - 9:00-5:00 Feb 19  $150 + HST

Small Vessel Operator Proficiency is a requirement for crew on boats with 12 passengers or less, under 15 tons or cargo vessels/tugs under 15 tons operating not more than 25 Nautical Miles offshore. SVOP training involves becoming familiar with navigation, vessel construction and stability, collision avoidance and navigation safety, ropework, anchoring and vessel maneuvering, Canada Shipping Act, pollution prevention regulation, geography and chart construction, electronic navigation (radar and chart plotter), meteorology, tides and currents and much more.

Marine Emergency Duties A3 is a one day MED course required for crew on small vessels 5 tonnes or less of cargo (non passenger) vessels less than 15 tons operating no more than 25 nautical Miles offshore. Fish farm, aquaculture, sport fishing lodge and fuel dockhands also require the course. Coursework covers Responsibility, Abandon ship, Fire, Man Overboard and Emergency Signals.

Radio Operator Course Marine is required for all boats using DSC (Digital Selective Calling) VHF radios within 25M of shore. So as long as you do not operate or your vessel is licensed to go no more than 25 nautical Miles offshore, an ROC-M course (one day) course will do. Coursework includes proper radio conversation protocol, Digital Selective Calling emergency procedures and information concerning the new GMDSS (Global Maritime Distress and Safety System).

Space is limited for these courses, so call us today to book your spot!

PLEASE NOTE: CDN (candidate document numbers) Numbers are required before we can release your certificates! Apply from Transport Canada Victoria or Transport Canada Nanaimo in person for free, or at a ServiceBC location with 2 pieces of certifiable (gov't issue) ID for an $18 fee.

Former DiveSafe students get the job done.

Former student Stokely Grant can be found these days in the warm Carribean waters off of Trinidad working on rigs and pipelines. He recently sent us pictures showing his crew inspecting a rig and installing 5 tonne annodes. The inspection included NDT tests and most of the work took place in 80-100 feet of water.
